Are Most Teardrop Trailers Comfortable?

Teardrop trailers: they’re practical, compact, easy to tow, and outrageously popular. The teardrop trailers actually came about in the 1930s and had a 30-year run, but then lost popularity with outdoor enthusiasts in the 1960’s. Now, they are widely admired for their attractive features and the ease in which a cozy home-on-wheels can be taken virtually anywhere in today’s camping world with a focus on minimal footprint and the ability to camp with convenience.

But, are teardrop trailers comfortable? Teardrop trailers are incredibly cozy and comfortable while on the go. Some may argue that spending time in the great outdoors is not truly camping if you are bringing along a trailer. However, with a teardrop trailer, you can essentially bring along a weatherproof, hard-walled shelter that provides optimal comfort and reliability. Let’s take a look at the available features that add to the comfort of camping in a teardrop camper!

The Size and shape of a Teardrop Trailer

A teardrop trailer is shaped as its name describes-like a teardrop. They are rounded on one end and then taper off on the other end. A typical teardrop trailer has ample sleeping space for two adults with a standard kitchen area in the back. Some also include a dining area and a bathroom for extra convenience. But essentially, they’re cozy little trailers that are truly comfortable to sleep in, especially when you compare it to tent sleeping, which isn’t generally considered comfortable.

Because they are smaller than other trailers and campers, they allow for more versatility in destinations. You can surely venture off the beaten path a little more than those with larger RVs and campers.

Ample Sleeping space in a Teardrop Camper

The interior of teardrop trailers are small, but this does not compromise comfort. The trailer’s interior is geared towards sleeping and for the quality sleep you expect when you crave comfort after a long day exploring nature. For a warm and restful night’s sleep, the teardrop trailer has a bed that typically takes up the whole front area from side to side. Most teardrop trailers fit a queen-sized mattress for two!

The Famous Kitchen/Galley area

Usually, the kitchen that comes along with the teardrop trailer is an outdoor kitchen. The most common type is a hatchback style, allowing you to lock up the food and entire kitchen to keep everything safe from the outdoor elements and wildlife. However basic they sound, they tend to be very well-equipped, allowing you to prepare your favorite meals easily.

The Dining Area of a Teardrop Camper

It is the norm for most people who use teardrop trailers to set up dining and common areas outside by the outdoor, pop-out kitchen area. This allows for ample space to gather, eat, and enjoy the company of others while taking in the great outdoors. There are many fold-up options for tables that many campers bring along to pop open just outside of the teardrop trailer.

The Small Bathroom of some Teardrops

Some teardrop trailers do have the space for a bathroom or a wet bath. Most teardrop trailers maximize the space for a comfy sleeping area. However, if having a bathroom on board is a necessity to provide you with the level of comfort you desire, some teardrop trailers do come equipped with a small (very small) one. Some Teardrop Campers Are Wired for Electricity

For some, comfort comes along with the ability to have some electricity to keep phones and electronics charged and operating. This is especially important when you’re camping for an extended amount of time and want to be able to check the weather, find directions to the nearest trails, and keep in touch with loved ones. Many teardrop trailers run on a battery similar to a car battery to provide electricity to power through the camping experience, but some are also equipped with solar options.

Many Add-on features for Teardrops

Many teardrop trailers allow you to customize it with a wide array of add-ons to really amp up the livability factor. Visors, tents, awnings, and even shade rooms can be easily added on to your teardrop trailer to shield you from the elements outside, whether it be a scorching, hot sun, or a brisk, winter breeze. If they do not come along with an A/C unit, some others have vent fans above the bed for some cooling action.

Additionally, having a door that locks provides a safe and reassuring level of comfort for you, your camping buddy, and your belongings. You can rest assured that safety is never compromised whether you’re in your teardrop camper or you’re off on a trail leaving your camper and belongings behind.
